This position presents a great opportunity for a self -motivated individual to lead planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations on almost 3,000 miles of state roadways across 12 counties. The District Engineer position provides an opportunity to lead large transportation infrastructure projects with access to the latest technology and equipment to maintain them. MnDOT’s culture of safety and innovation allows this position to shape and transform transportation in southwest Minnesota. In addition to leading the district efforts, this position will also provide strategic direction to the department. The District Engineer position participates on several statewide committees focused on innovation, safety, strategic planning, and workforce development. This individual will also build relationships and partner with cities, counties, and elected officials to improve transportation throughout the region. **Travel throughout District 8 will be required to meet with staff, partners, customers, and the public. Travel across the state is periodically required, including monthly division meetings.** **Occasional national travel is also required for training, conferences, and meeting with congressional members (Total travel up to 25%, no more than 10% of travel includes overnight stays).** Responsibilities of the position include: + Aligning the district’s objectives, goals and direction with the agency’s strategic operating, transportation, and business plans; budget; and supporting the One Minnesota initiatives. + Providing leadership to the district staff through proactive planning and management of relationships and resources. + Developing key relationships with city and county officials, local legislators and congressional delegates to effectively develop and maintain the districts infrastructure system. + Working with internal and external groups to identify and mitigate risks with delivering transportation priorities. + Participating on statewide groups, task forces, and committees to develop strategies and implement statewide initiatives within the district that contribute to the overall success of the agency. **Minimum Qualifications** To qualify, applicants must have a current registration as a Professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geo-science, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) AND Three years of managerial experience overseeing a complex civil engineering unit providing strategic direction, resource management (budget and staff), and policy development. (For example, serving as an Engineer Administrative Senior (22M) or Engineer Administrative Management (20M); or equivalent managerial experience outside of state service). **To be considered further in the selection process, please provide a cover letter explaining your experience in the following areas and attach it with your resume.** * **Leadership and Management:** Experience enhancing trust with transparency and accountability which demonstrates a broad understanding of leadership and management in program delivery and maintenance settings.
