This leadership role is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction in development and implementation of food safety regulatory compliance and risk avoidance/mitigation strategies including recall management and will assist in strategic planning by providing a framework for company growth and future development. This role will also provide leadership as a subject matter expert to the Chem and Micro labs regarding ingredient finished product and environmental monitoring testing and results interpretation. Responsibilities: + Provide strategic leadership on food safety and regulatory compliance to ensure a food safety culture throughout the company. + Ensure food safety and regulatory compliance metrics are communicated to all key stakeholders. + Lead and ensure food safety continuous improvement initiatives are developed and executed. + Provide strategic leadership on food safety risk management including risk assessments and communication. + Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to develop and lead the implementation of strategic plans to manage and mitigate risks. Collaborate with technical community to design food safety into products processes and facilities. + Validate capital expenditures to ensure compliance to sanitary construction and design functionality food safety and food sanitation opportunities. + Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to review new product platforms and/or sales avenues reviews for food safety and regulatory concerns. + Subject matter expertise and support in the evaluation of new and emerging food safety issues. + Provide leadership to assure all USDA, HACCP & FDA food safety plans and prerequisite programs are effective and scientifically substantiated. + Provide direction and guidance to FSQ team on effectiveness of co-pack and raw ingredients supplier food safety & auditing programs. Provide strategic and tactical leadership to assure all food safety and regulatory policies (USDA/FDA/Corporate) and procedures are maintained and followed. + Collaborate with food safety & quality teams to ensure sanitation and environmental monitoring programs are effective and substantiated. + Develop and provide or support food safety and regulatory training for all key internal stakeholders. + As recall coordinator provide strategic and tactical leadership for recall management corporate best practices. + Collaborate with technical community to develop food safety and microbiology scientific studies. Interface with industry experts to review current industrial and regulatory issues. Develop relationships with state and federal regulatory offices to provide insights to the facilities to ensure successful compliance against USDA and FDA expectations. + This role may act as a liaison during routine and non-routine regulatory matters. + Responsible for strategic leadership of food safety/microbiology and chemistry laboratories. What we need from you: Education : Minimum of BS in Food Science Food Microbiology or equivalent. Advanced degree preferred. Years of Related Experience : Minimum of 10 years related experience 15-20 years desired. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities : + Advanced knowledge of food safety management principles; in depth knowledge and understanding of food regulations (including but not limited to USDA/FDA). + Strong interpersonal and communication skills. + Ability to solve complex problems, solid analytical skills, experience with scientific methods and experimental design. + Fundamental knowledge of food microbiology, understanding of toxicology principles. + Team leadership and direct report development. + Project management experience and intermediate PC skills.
