Quietly Beautiful - Wildly Connected

City of Ortonville

Ortonville is a vibrant lakeside town nestled along the shores of Big Stone Lake, renowned for offering some of the best fishing in the state. However, the lake is just one of many recreational activities the area has to offer. Just outside of town lies the Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge, spanning over 10,000 acres of stunning natural beauty. The area also boasts numerous trails and parks, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.

Beyond its outdoor adventures, Ortonville charms visitors with its welcoming Main Street, lined with unique shops and delightful restaurants. Whether you’re visiting or looking for a place to call home, Ortonville offers something for everyone!

Big Stone Lake

Big Stone Lake separates the states of Minnesota and South Dakota. It is known best for its excellent walleye fishing. While there is plenty of fun to be had on the water, the area surrounding the lake is also bustling with adventure. Big Stone Lake State Park and the Bonanza Area are located just outside of Ortonville on the lake. It is a great place to camp and enjoy the 30 acres of rare glacila till hill prairie.

Ortonville Trail

The 4.5 mile Ortonville Trail connects the headwaters of the Minnesota River with the Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge. Experience a scenic journey beginning at the foot of Big Stone Lake, and cross four bridges over the Minnesota River and its tributaries, passing dormant granite quarries where the outcroppings are more than 30-feet in the air.
