This position exists to perform supervising the staff assigned to Site Assessment Unit 1 in the Superfund Site Assessment Section of the Remediation Division. The Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing all activities conducted by the staff as well as for managing all administrative and personnel issues associated with the unit's functioning. Depending on unit assignment, the position's responsibilities may include: • Supporting staff to carry out daily functions and work as part of the unit. • Optimizing unit processes by working with cross-functional groups. • Fiscal and budgetary operations of the Superfund and Site Assessment programs. • Coordinating the operations of the above program areas with USEPA and the MN Dept. of Health. • Measurement and reporting (including legislative) activities of the above listed program areas. **Minimum Qualifications** 1) One year of supervisory experience in environmental protection/pollution control, OR 2) Two years of advanced professional experience in environmental protection/pollution control, including such activities as site assessment and remedial cleanup, and fiscal and contract management. Examples for internal candidates – (Environmental Specialist 4, Planner Principal, Hydrologist 2, Engineer 2 Graduate, Research Scientist 2, or related classes). OR 3) Three years of environmental experience performing work equivalent to an Environmental Specialist 3 level or senior level work directing, designing, AND developing environmental assessment or remedial programs. OR 4) Equivalent combination of the above. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. **Preferred Qualifications** Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulatory frameworks and their applicability to Superfund projects. Knowledge of the structure, policies, and procedures of local, state, and federal government. Accomplished project management skills to guide and direct several complex cleanup projects while supporting staff and problem solving laterally and vertically to determine appropriate actions. Accomplished leadership and management skills to effectively coach, train and lead peers in the use of problem solving and project management. Communication/writing skills sufficient to clearly and tactfully communicate in a manner appropriated for the intended audience. Experience coordinating with outside stakeholders, local units of government, the EPA, and internal agency programs on identifying, developing, and executing complex cleanup-related projects. **Physical Requirements** Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. **Additional Requirements** Position duties may require travel, but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver’s license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
