**Shop Laborer** **Job Description** This role supports a medium-sized manufacturing operation that produces overhead cranes and performs a variety of custom job shop work. As a Shop Laborer, you will assist multiple departments with general shop operations, material handling, and basic machine and hand tool use. You will work with cranes, slings, forklifts, and other equipment while following clear instructions from experienced employees to keep production running safely and efficiently. **Responsibilities** + Assist in general shop operations across Rail, Fabrication, Electrification, and Maintenance departments based on current workload demands. + Follow instructions and directions from supervisors and experienced employees to complete assigned tasks safely and accurately. + Perform material handling throughout the shop using cranes, slings, and other approved lifting devices. + Use forklifts and other material handling equipment to move parts, components, and finished products as needed. + Operate basic shop machinery and equipment under supervision, following all safety procedures and training. + Use hand tools and power tools to support fabrication, assembly, and finishing tasks. + Perform sanding, grinding, deburring, and other surface preparation work on sheet metal and other materials. + Assist with sandblasting and spray gun operations as directed to prepare or finish components. + Support production tasks related to construction-type work, including activities similar to drywall, concrete, and solar installation environments, as applicable to the shop’s projects. + Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of tools, equipment, and materials. + Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to shop rules. + Lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical tasks such as crouching, standing, twisting, and moving materials throughout the shift. **Essential Skills** + Previous manufacturing experience. + Ability to safely use cranes, slings, and other lifting devices, or willingness to learn under supervision. + Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment. + Comfort working with hand tools and power tools in a production or construction environment. + Capability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical tasks such as crouching, standing, twisting, and moving materials for extended periods. + Willingness to follow detailed instructions and learn from experienced employees. + Commitment to working safely in an environment with machinery, tools, fumes, and airborne particles. **Why Work Here?** The company offers a highly competitive benefits package that emphasizes long-term financial security and affordable health coverage.
