We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Safety and Workers Compensation Compliance Manager! Under the general direction of the Director of Human Resources and in collaboration with Operations managers and supervisors, the incumbent manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities related to safety programs and workers compensation within Life Science Innovations (LSI) and its wholly owned companies. 50-60% of time will be focused on supporting Turkey Valley Farms and the remainder to be split amongst PALS, Willmar Poultry Farms, Farm Service Elevator, and Headstart Hatching. Additional connections to other companies will be planned for the future of this position. A best fit would also align well within our company culture and values. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Safety Management: + Provides overall leadership to a comprehensive, uniform, and effective safety program. + Ensure compliance with Office of Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and related local, state, and federal safety regulations. + Develops and reviews safety training for project sites, assisting department heads and administrators in enforcing safety regulations and codes. + Provide safety training and leadership to existing Safety Committees. + Disseminates safety information to managers, supervisors and Safety Committees on pertinent safety topics including toxic substances, hazards, carcinogens, etc. + Conduct proactive safety inspections and audits to create and sustain work environments with a focus on accident/hazard prevention and to monitor compliance with OSHA regulations and approved safety policies/standards/standard operating procedures. + Correct identified/reported safety hazards in collaboration with managers, supervisors, and maintenance team members. + Work with employees and their managers to identify and correct unsafe working conditions and unsafe actions in the fulfillment of their work responsibilities. + Develop, maintain, and report on a Safety/Loss Control dashboard to LSI senior leadership team and those of all affiliate companies. Utilize data to drive goal setting and corrective actions related to reducing accident incident and severity rates while reducing safety related costs. + Investigates and analyzes incident reports and complaints involving work ‐ related injuries and illness; prepares reports noting hazards, violations, and accidents; recommends measures to prevent recurrence. + Develops and refines recommended procedures and methods based in collaboration with managers and supervisors on reports of incidents, accidents, and other data gathered from industry and agencies to improve safety and loss prevention. Worker’s Compensation Management: + Stay current on workers compensation laws within related local, state, and federal programs. + Administers the worker compensation program, including claims and compliance reporting, for LSI and its’ affiliate companies. + Workers’ compensation risk management including: + + Contract analysis + Claims analysis + Claims management and administration + Insurance transactions + Financial analysis + Completing and reviewing all insurance and risk management questionnaires and complying with necessary account procedures + Oversees loss control and loss mitigation related to workers compensation claims, including routine adjudication of claims, and interfaces with the company’s workers compensation attorneys on all litigation and administrative proceedings as well as non ‐ routine, large and unusual claims. + Initiates and maintains insurance industry relationships including the workers compensation brokerage relationship, selection and management of third-party administrators and maintaining relationships with claims adjusters. The ideal candidate will have the following educational and experience background: Knowledge + Knowledgeable on OSHA and state reports (such as OSHA 300) and poster requirements related to safety and workers compensation. + Understanding and experience with insurance principles, practices and terminology of loss reduction and loss control, claims management, claims adjusting and subrogation. + Working knowledge and proficiency with federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and terminology relating to occupational medicine, safety, and ADA requirements. Skills + Mastery of filing and administration requirements for workers compensation claims, work injuries, illnesses, or exposures. + Possesses effective instruction techniques for conducting safety training and education. + Advanced computer proficiency of Microsoft Office software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, Visio, and organization charts. + Possesses good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to exercise strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines without impact to operations. + Analytical, flexible, and decisive decision-making skills with strong detail ‐ orientation. Abilities + Proficient with the operational characteristics, services and activities of a comprehensive risk management and safety program. + Ability to read, interpret, and disseminate information contained in loss reports. + Ability to coordinate “Fit for Duty” examinations, drug and alcohol testing for post ‐ accident/incident situations and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements. + Ability to display discretion in protecting proprietary information and confidential sensitive personal information contained in workers compensation files and reports. + Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a constructive and professional manner with other employees, customers, and site personnel. + Ability to travel up to 60% of the time. Experience + Three or more years of previous experience in a field environment as a Safety Specialist or Safety Engineer. + Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in safety, accident/incident prevention, industrial hygiene, loss control and safety education. + Previous supervisory experience. + Previous experience effectively overseeing, maintaining, and updating confidential medical records.
