(USA-MN-Long Prairie) Sign Technician / Heavy Equipment Operator

Purpose of Position The purpose of this position is to install, maintain and document all sign installation in Todd County. This position is required to maintain a high level of technical ability in the use of the Minnesota Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MMUTCD) and changes in placement materials and laws regarding the use and placement of traffic control devices. Maintains a successful sign installation and maintenance program. This position involves both limited-skill and skilled work in relation to the operation of construction and maintenance equipment of moderate complexity. It also includes the performance of more difficult manual work. Winter maintenance includes clearing snow and ice from roadways. This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment, motor vehicles and performing manual labor. Maintains a computerized inventory of signs, sign materials and posts. Maintains a computerized inventory of in-place sign condition and in-place sign location on the roadway. Maintains signs, clears trees and brush from sign area and right of way. Assist in preparation of signing plans for maintenance and construction projects. Contacts underground utility locating services before signpost installation. Carry signs and perform other lifting and moving of heavy objects and materials. Performs routine mechanical repair and maintenance work of county equipment. Operate tandem dump trucks for snow removal and materials hauling. Uses hand and power tools to remove brush and trees. Must be available for call outs for seasonal and emergency operations. This position requires regular and timely attendance. Any other duties as assigned or apparent. Operate a variety of heavy equipment for hauling, loading, spreading and compaction of road construction mat. Striping and other maintenance operations. Clean and repair county shop. Understand and use bucket truck and safety equipment that goes with it.
