Class: Resin Pendants with Melanie Gabbert-Gatchell

October 21, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join artist, Melanie Gabbert-Gatchell as she guides participants as they learn how to make their own resin pendants.

The class will be discovering how to work with resin, alcohol ink, pigment powders, shells, sand and mica to create 2 necklace pendants. Each student can choose 2 pendant shapes that they would like and the colors to place on the pendants. This class is challenging as we are using resin which can be hard to work with; therefore, no one under the age of 13 can participate in the class. The resin we will be using is certified non-toxic (when used as directed). No VOCs. No fumes. No solvents. No respirator needed. Non-flammable. Non-hazardous. Conforms to ASTM D4236 (Safe for Home Use).

Class is Saturday, October 21st starting at 10:00am at the K.K. Berge Gallery in beautiful downtown Granite Falls by the walking bridge. Even though this class meets one time, the resin in the pendants need time to harden, so you will have to leave them at the K.K. Berge Gallery for a few days before you can take them home. The artist also needs a day to add more resin to the pendants (to give them more of a domed appearance) cleaning and polishing the pendants and resin and just overall finishing the pieces for the class participants. So please consider this when deciding to attend the class. But once they are fully finished you will have your own unique hand poured pieces of wearable art!

Cost is $40/ person and all supplies will be provided to make 2 pendants and you will get 2 necklace chains as well. This class is more costly in terms of products used to create the one of a kind pendants and additional artist time in finishing each piece to ensure that they are lasting pieces for participants.

Make one for yourself and the other as a Christmas gift or just something special for someone else!

Participants must wear an apron or old clothes as the resin will harden in fabric and will stain your clothes.

NOTE: All classes require pre-payment to reserve space in the class and to purchase supplies. Sign up for all classes at the K.K. Berge Gallery, 320-564-4240. Registration deadline is one week prior to class. Late registrations must contact the artist, Melanie Gabbert Gatchell, directly for permission to enter the class.

Part of the proceeds go to the Granite Area Arts Council which provides many exhibits, classes and events for our community! This is a class for any level of experience, come have some fun!
